Impact OS

Every year, hundreds of thousands of NYSC corps members are deployed across Nigeria, placing them at the heart of communities where they encounter pressing challenges in education, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, and economic development. While the Community Development Service (CDS) initiative encourages corps members to address these challenges, many projects struggle with limited funding, poor continuity, inadequate documentation, and the absence of a system for measuring and scaling impact. ImpactOS seeks to strengthen the effectiveness of CDS by providing a digital platform where corps members can identify and validate community challenges, collaborate with experts and innovators, access mentorship and funding, implement sustainable solutions, and track measurable outcomes. The platform also creates a growing repository of grassroots intelligence that can support researchers in Universities, policymakers, Government Agencies, development partners, NGOs and investors in making data-driven decisions. By transforming isolated efforts into a connected national innovation network, ImpactOS aims to preserve valuable community insights, scale impactful solutions, and redefine how Nigeria discovers and solves local challenges.

Challenge Brief

Nigeria possesses one of the most powerful yet underutilized development networks in Africa: the National Youth Service Corps. Every year, graduates are deployed to urban and rural communities across all 774 Local Government Areas, providing a unique opportunity to identify local needs, engage directly with citizens, and design context-specific solutions.

Unfortunately, valuable community insights, project experiences, and innovative ideas are often lost when corps members complete their service. As a result, future corps members frequently restart efforts from scratch, policymakers lack access to grassroots intelligence, researchers struggle to obtain localized data, and promising projects fail to secure the support needed to scale.

ImpactOS addresses this challenge by creating a centralized ecosystem that enables corps members to document community problems, validate them with evidence, collaborate across disciplines, access mentorship and funding opportunities, monitor project outcomes, and contribute to a growing national knowledge database. Over time, the platform will become a living map of community challenges and solutions, supporting real-time evidence-based decision-making and sustainable development across Nigeria.

Key Challenge Question

How might we transform NYSC from a one-year national service programme into a permanent innovation and community intelligence network that empowers corps members to solve local challenges, attract resources, generate actionable data, and accelerate national development?

Goals & Mission

To transform the collective reach, knowledge, and creativity of NYSC corps members into a sustainable national development engine by enabling problem discovery, collaborative innovation, project funding, impact measurement, and data-driven decision-making for communities across Nigeria.
