Challenge Brief
Every service year and internship cycle, NITDA onboards corps members and interns with diverse, often undocumented skill sets. Placement is typically based on department needs rather than individual strengths, resulting in underutilized talent and slower onboarding. Many also leave their service year having done routine tasks unrelated to their skills or career interests; a missed opportunity for both sides.
An AI-driven onboarding process could close this gap. It starts with a short intake questionnaire on background, experience, and interests, which the AI uses to generate an adaptive skills assessment, one that adjusts question difficulty and focus in real time, giving an accurate skill read in minutes rather than a fixed, generic test. Then the AI uses these results to recommend a department placement matched to the individual's actual strengths. and finally, it generates a short, personalized learning path from NITDA's existing internal training programs to close any remaining skill gaps.
NITDA gets better-matched, more productive talent from day one, and corps members/interns leave with real skills and clearer career direction, turning onboarding into genuine value for both sides
Key Challenge Question
How can NITDA use AI to assess the real digital skills of incoming corps members/interns, place them where they create the most value, and guide their growth using NITDA's own training resources?
Goals & Mission
To build an AI-powered onboarding tool that:
(1) Uses a short intake questionnaire to generate an adaptive skills assessment tailored to each individual, adjusting in real time based on their responses
(2) Evaluates the results to recommend a department placement matching the person's demonstrated strengths, and
(3) Generates a short personalized learning path, sequencing NITDA's existing internal training programs into a clear, trackable plan to close identified skill gaps.
This will allow NITDA to benefit from more efficient and productive talent from day one, and corps members/interns leave with real transferable skills and a clearer career direction.
