Digital Trust Framework

The proliferation of forged academic degrees, NYSC discharge certificates, and professional licenses compromises the integrity of the Nigerian workforce. Current manual verification processes are siloed, paper-based, and often take weeks or months to conclude. This bottleneck creates severe inefficiencies in recruitment, enables unqualified personnel to enter critical economic and government sectors, and causes significant financial loss through fraudulent employment.

Challenge Brief

Currently, verifying a citizen's credentials requires employers or government agencies to conduct manual background checks directly with the issuing institutions, a process that is slow, expensive, and prone to human error or insider manipulation. This challenge proposes the development of a National Credential Registry. Under this system, authorized institutions (Universities, Polytechnics, NYSC, Professional Bodies) act as secure node issuers, digitally signing and hashing credentials onto an immutable digital ledger at the point of graduation. Citizens receive a secure digital copy of their verifiable credentials. Employers and foreign institutions can then use a unified API gateway to instantly check the cryptographic hash of a submitted document against the official ledger. If the document has been altered in any way, the verification fails instantly, effectively turning a multi-week physical verification process into a one-second automated check.

Key Challenge Question

How might we leverage decentralized technologies (such as Public Key Infrastructure and Blockchain) to create a unified, instant, and tamper-proof verification system for academic and professional credentials across Nigerian MDAs and the private sector?

Goals & Mission

To design, prototype, and pilot a secure digital public infrastructure (DPI) gateway that permanently eliminates credential fraud, restores global trust in Nigerian academic and professional certificates, and drastically reduces the cost and time associated with talent recruitment and citizen data verification.
